Project #6 Title - Data Portrait

Data Portrait

This project is represents how many times I access Instagram and how much time I spend on it, in what days. Each line represents how many hours I spend on Instagram, more or less, in my code I referred to this as 'lineIndex'. Each time the lineIndex is multiplicated it corresponds to additional minutes that I spend on the app. Each time the visitor clicks on the screen is accessing the app in the times I did during the week. To differentiate the days from each other I colored them accordingly to Instagram's logo main colors. The days start from Monday to Sunday starting from the top left and ending to the bottom right, following the diagonal of the canvas.

Design Process & Sketches

I started tracking every day of the week how many times I entered Instagram. It was difficult to actually keep track of it every time I was accessing the app. The fun part was deciding how to translate through code how much time I spend using the app and decide how to show the action of me entering the app each and every time at a different hour of the day.

Reflection

I like the final result of my sketch, the fine colored lines take inspiration from Sol LeWitt artworks that we looked at in class. From this project I learned that I tend to use Instagram more during the first days of the week rather than the weekend, mostly because I get up earlier. I think that through the process I gained insight about my routine and how much I am addicted by this social media. Through the process, from the way I decided to display the content I lost in some sort of way how much time I spend on the app to talk to my friends in comparison to how much time I spend on it just scrolling through when I am bored.
