Project #7 Title - Autobiographical Game

Obstacles of Human Existence

Day to day obligations and obstacles in the city maze

This project is a reflection of the small but complex things that we deal with in our everyday life. It is based on the everyday obstacles and obligations that we encounter on a daily basis that may annoy us and keep us from getting places on time or smoothly. I envisioned the blocks of the city as if they were a maze through which the player has to walk through at a steady pace. Will you get to the subway? Will you get to class on time? Will you have time to get coffee before class, or will you be sleepy all day long because you were late?

I imagined the game to be divided in the following scenes:

Title Screen - The title screen provides an overall idea of what the game is about. It includes some graphics from the game, the title, and the clock.

Scene 1 - Maze - Getting through the blocks to reach the subway. The player gets out of the house, with a limited time at their disposal to not be late for class, they need to get to the subway in the fastest way possible by choosing the best route. Will they encounter any obstacles? Any red lights? Was this street closed yesterday too?

Scene 2 - Subway - In this scene the player forgot to refill its metrocard and has to go to the machine before being able to pass through the turnstile. At the same time, it is rush hour, and the subway is filled with people. Will they be able to get on the train?

Scene 3 - Union Square Green Market - The player has finally made it to the city. But there is one more challenge before they can get to school, the Union Square Green Market and the many people that are browsing through the tends. Will the player be able to surpass all of the people to get to school on time?

Final Screen - If the player gets on time to school the award is that they get the deeply desired Joe coffee; if not, they will be disappointed and sleepy for the rest of the day. At the same time, this game wants to be a reflection on how, if none of these obstacles would ever happen into our daily lives, life would be so plain and boring, with nothing to talk about.

Reflection

This was the first time ever for me making a game. I enjoyed both the process of creating the graphics and coding it from scratch. I learned a lot of the actual making and thought process of making a game as well as the many iterations that it takes to get to the desired result.
